FAQs:

Why should we invest in Couples Counselling?

Investing in your relationship is one of the most meaningful decisions you can make for your shared future. Many couples delay counselling because challenges may feel like “just a small hiccup,” and it’s common to hope things will improve on their own. However, unresolved tension, repeated misunderstandings, or emotional distance can gradually create deeper stress points that partners may not notice forming at first. When these early signs are left unaddressed, small cracks can quietly widen over time, impacting trust, connection, communication, and intimacy.

Couples counselling offers a clear, evidence-based, and practical path forward—helping partners understand each other better, break unhelpful cycles, and rebuild a stronger emotional foundation. Seeking support early often means fewer counselling hours are needed to create positive change, making it both time-efficient and cost-effective. With affordable rates and proven therapeutic approaches such as Gottman-informed strategies, CBT,  and narrative and trauma-informed relationship support (as used in my practice), couples gain tools that extend far beyond therapy, supporting long-term resilience and closeness.

Choosing counselling is not about fixing something “broken” - it’s about strengthening something important. It’s about showing up for each other, learning better ways to connect, and protecting what matters most before distance grows harder to bridge.

Simply put: couples who invest in support early often rebuild connection faster, communicate better, and create lasting positive change for their relationship and family life.

What is a pre-session Individual assessment, and why is it important?

It is not possible to help any couple effectively without first understanding the relationship dynamics.

The Individual Assessment is completed online via personalised questionnaires and costs $150 per couple ($75 per partner). It delivers clarity and relationship understanding equivalent to 4 full exploratory counselling sessions, making it one of the smartest and most cost-effective steps couples can take to accelerate progress. By identifying communication styles, emotional needs, conflict cycles, strengths, and shared connection goals, the assessment directly shapes the counselling process, enabling sessions to be more focused, efficient, and impactful from the outset. Because it significantly reduces guesswork and trial-and-error conversations, couples spend fewer hours analysing problems and more time creating meaningful change. Compared to standard session rates, this assessment provides substantial savings in time and cost, while strengthening long-term outcomes and relationship resilience.

A simple truth: this step helps couples make faster progress in fewer counselling hours, with benefits that extend far beyond therapy.

Is it compulsory to purchase the Individual assessment? What if we prefer less-structured therapy, or only need one or two sessions?

Your comfort and preferences always come first. The Individual Assessment is not compulsory, but it is highly recommended because it provides clarity and insight equivalent to 4 sessions of exploratory work, helping make counselling more focused and effective. That said, if you prefer a more flexible or short-term approach, or are seeking support for only a session or two, I’m happy to adapt the process to suit your needs. Counselling is always tailored to what feels right for you, and you are encouraged to share your preferences at any time.
